During the past weeks we have been working on a small film-project at school. The idea was to give us students an introduction to production design while bringing the story to life...
The story we were made to work with was called the christmas card where we would get to get a glimpse of santa's home and how he prepares the christmas presents. It might sound traditional, only this santa lives on a space station...
Here is one of the sketches that I made as a suggestion for the costume design. My santa is old and tired, not wanting to let go of his worn clothes, not wanting to adjust to his futuristic home.
Practice, practice, practice. It's the only way to really improve. I've decided I need to challenge myself. I'm not where I want to be when it comes to my art. Not yet. So I'm going to try and change that. By painting and drawing a lot more. Not just sometimes, but everyday.
My plan is that I have to do something every day until the end of the season (end of April). A sketch, a doodle, a study in color...big or small doesn't matter, as long as it is something every day.
I'm already one week in on the challenge, and this is what it looks like so far...
Today is the first of December and I thought I'd post a small christmas card I made during one of our first lessons in Digital Illustration. It's kind of a speed painting since we were not allowed much time. Inspired by Sven Nordqvist's illustrations. Painted in photoshop with some final details in Corel Painter.
The general elections were held in Sweden on the 14th September this year resulting in a change in government. Many of us was also chocked or saddened to see the Sweden Democrats becoming the third biggest party. A far-right, anti-immigration and racist party that, like similar parties in the rest of Europe, now gains more control.
At the same time, the Green Party and the Center Party, both having the environment as one of their biggest issues, gained less votes than in the previous election in 2010. It's interesting to see what kind of priorities we make.
I'm not normally doing political stuff, but seeing the result of the votes, brought this picture to my mind. Well I couldn't shake it off, so I had to get it down on paper... maybe not the the sharpest political satire, but still, it's something completely new from me. And with a new style...
In english the the text reads (more or less):
“at least we don't have any immigrants in our town.”
I've got quite vivid dreams and remember many of them when I wake up. It's amazing what the brain can come up with while I'm busy sleeping... For some reason a lot of my dreams are nightmares, but I've kind of got use to them, so it's not that often they really unsettle me. But last week I had one that did.
And since they lingered in my head, I decided to bring them into the light... And they make me realize I have to practice using perspectives...
Klart man blir inspirerad!
