If I could turn back time

Kategori: Props

This is the result of one of the projects we made before christmas last year. We were assigned to build a helmet out of airex, a completely new material to me. The helmet was suppose to have its origins in one of the civilizations that existed during the Bronze Age or the  Iron Age. I took inspiration from my own country, Sweden and the helmets that had been found in Uppland, on the eastern coast not far from Stockholm.

Foxy Lady

Kategori: Projects

So finally the fox head I've been working on for some weeks are now finished. It ha been a long but interesting project where I've learned to work with some new materials. There are a few things that could have been improved, but overall I'm quite happy with how it turned out.

The finished head...

The head is made of latex and then covered in fur. I used both fake fur and real fur from a fox hat I found in a second hand store.

The whiskers are straws from an old paintbrush...

The eyes are hand painted plastic, with a clear plastic lens on top...

The "fox hole" without the fox...

Put together into the final piece...

I wanted the fox to still be "alive" and not mouted like a hunting trophy...

The base is made from styrofoam glued to a masonite board...

Other materials that I used included steel wire, masking tape, saw dust, paint, real dirt, plastic leaves from an old fake plant (re-painted of course), wallpaper paste, glue, screws, a piece of wood...

Come Together

Kategori: Projects

Some weeks ago me and my classmates had a five day workshop together with Cecilia Iversen. Four very basic ”rooms” had been built in the schools studio and we got to transform them into scenes from different time periods. Me and a group of four other students where assigned to design a kitchen of a collective household from the 70s.

Below you can see our process.

Starting off with a sketch...

What we started with...

Adding color and tile...

More color, wallpaper and adding the floor....

Adding the furniture and props. Finishing touches.

Final scene...

With actors...

Props made by me. An ashtray and two small plants...

What a big mouth you have

Kategori: Props

We started this second term with a quick film-project where we worked in small groups of two or three people . Everything was supposed to be done in less than three days, which made it rather "quick and dirty".

The film was also meant to re-tell or interpret a part of the traditional children's story The Red Riding Hood. As you will see we went quite far from the original saga.

It was shot with a handheld smartphone and edited in Adobe Premiere Pro. Paper was the main material for the set and characters.

Boy, You're an Alien

Kategori: Props

This is a small wooden puppet I made for a film-project we finished just before christmas. The wood I used is linden treated with linseed oil. The decorations is painted with acrylics and the joints are joined together with copper colored wire.

The doll itself is around 30 cm tall. Total height, with the strings, is 60 cm.

Fox on the Run

Kategori: Projects

This week we've started a new big project in school, we are going to create an animal head (fake of course). The final piece is to be molded in latex and covered with fur. The goal is to make it look as realistic as possible. As you can see in the photos, I've chosen to do a fox.

First we sculpt the head in clay which later will be covered in plaster to create a mold for the latex.

Creating the base...

Starting to put on some clay...

Trying out the ears... not yet good enough...

Altering the shapes....

Final head from side...

Front...

Let's face it

Kategori: Projects

I had planned to upload some photos from our latest school projects during my christmas vacation. But, unfortunately, my computer crashed and I'm now trying to identify and arrange my recovered files. So instead you get to see some new pictures of a small private project in progress.

The bust is around 7 cm tall, sculpted in super sculpey and painted with acrylics. I'm planning to add hair, body and clothes as well, but made from other materials.

It's always strange to give your sculptures eyes...it's like they suddenly wake up and adds a little bit of their own personality...

Santa Claus is coming to town

Kategori: Projects

During the past weeks we have been working on a small film-project at school. The idea was to give us students an introduction to production design while bringing the story to life...

The story we were made to work with was called the christmas card where we would get to get a glimpse of santa's home and how he prepares the christmas presents. It might sound traditional, only this santa lives on a space station...

Here is one of the sketches that I made as a suggestion for the costume design. My santa is old and tired, not wanting to let go of his worn clothes, not wanting to adjust to his futuristic home.

Darkness on The Edge of Town

Kategori: Models

One more school project! The idea was to present a picture of a "kiosk" inspired by a chosen movie genre. It could either be a model or a digital creation but it had to have a photorealistic look to it. We were given very little time and almost to material to work with which made it a fun but stressful task.

I chose a classic gothic-horror look for my work and created my model mostly out of recycled material. It was photographed in a studio with a printed photograph placed behind it and a withered blueberry bush in the foreground. The fog was made out of natural wool. The photo was later edited in Photoshop.

I used different free textures for the surface of the model to create a feel of wood and tile. The background photo was borrowed from sacral-stock and the bottle of blood from ElaineSeleneStock.

Finally, a new post!

At the end of august this year I started studying props making in Skellefteå and have therefore been very busy lately. So even if I've been making a lot of paintings, sketches an other I've had no real time to sit down and upload it here... But here is one of my watercolor paintings to start with...

In To The Woods

Kategori: Illustrations

The season is over and I'm back in Sweden again ready for some summer!

So how did it go with my challenge, to draw or paint something everyday?

I will be honest, I did not manage to create something everyday...but I ended up working a lot more with my art than I've done in a long time and also manage to get some university work samples and a commission done. Almost everyday until the end of the season I worked with pictures in one way or another.

So how did it feel? Some days it felt like a burden, like having to remember to pay a bill, or take out the garbage... But most days it was easy, because the more I did the more I wanted to do. Instead of having trouble coming up with something to draw I suddenly had a lot of possible pictures in my head.

Overall it was a good idea and a good way of making myself get more creative and get things done!

Here is a painting, made during my challenge, of Skogsrået, a creature or being found in Swedish folklore. She is a guardian of the forest and wild animals, helpful but also very dangerous and unpredictable. She is described to be very beautiful, but her back is hollow like a tree trunk and some tales says she has a fox tail.

Painted with watercolors on paper, 21x29,7 cm.

Winter is Coming

Doing some portrait practice. As refrence Sansa Stark from HBO's Game of Thrones. I'm a big fan of the series and have now started to read the books as well. Painted in Photoshop on my Cintiq 13 HD.
